Magic 9-Patch

 

This pattern is called Magic 9-Patch.  You cut strips and make blocks and sew them together-----easy peasy!  This one was really fun to do.  The kit had wonderful colors of fabric. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is the mitten row from the Sampler quilt that Debi and I are making together.

Had an awful time putting those mittens together----had to think mirror image----

Selvage Edge Quilt Blocks

These are two blocks that I have been making for another selvage edge quilt.  Twelve blocks are covered completely covered with selvage edges and 24 blocks are only covered one-half of the way, making half-square triangle blocks.  The pattern for the quilt will be Old Maid blocks.

The pattern is from the book:  "Quilts from the Selvage Edge" by Karen Griska.  It has some neat patterns in it for selvage edges.  This is the second quilt from the book that I have made.

I'm also working on a train quilt for my hubby for Christmas.  He has quite a bit of train things and really enjoys trains.  It starts with panel and has matching fabric for the rest of it.  I try to work on it while he is not here.  But then I got to thinking,   he's going to quilt it, so maybe I'll have to give him just the top for his Christmas present!

I also have three embroidery quilts going------I work on those during Sit and Sew on Tuesdays.  Nice to have some pick-up work.

Three Project Linus Quilts to Start the New Year!

Off to a flying start in 2011 with 3 finished Project Linus quilts and a Star quilt for myself that hubby just finished quilting and I bound. Hard to tell what year to count them in because the quilt top was made last year , but the quilting was done this year, so that's when I counted them!

The Star quilt is one of my favorites and was quite a challenge for me, but I did it and I like the way it turned out. I have it hanging in the living room over the sofa.

The second one is from JulieK, a blogging friend---I quilted it and bound it. Isn't it pretty? Thanks so much, Julie! I called it "JulieK Red and White."

The next one is called "Flowers on Noah's Ark." I think it is a Yellow Brick Road.

The last one is called, "Baby Genius Grows Up," after the name of the fabric line.

There are 6 more in the pile to be quilted, so someday they will be done. Time to do some more quilts for me!!! For Christmas, I got fabric for a Church Dash using Civil War Reproductions from my daughter and a flag quilt using different quilt blocks in the stripes. Here is a picture from Keepsake Quilting.

Redwood Quilt

This kit was purchased at the quilt store in Kerrville, Texas called Creations. I fell in love with the backing when I first saw it in the window. It is a very simple patchwork design, but it shows off the colors of the fabrics---called Redwood---- so well. I folded the corner so you could see the backing. The little white dot in the photo is from my camera--the picture just doesn't show the richness of the fabrics though.----------Maybe its time for a new camera!!!

I have all my dolly dresses embellished and today I hope to set the top together with the sashings. Also adding to my pile for the retreat. I have a list that I keep from retreat to retreat, so that helps me a lot. We divide up the food preparation, so that makes it more pleasant---you can sew and know you only have to think about cooking food for breakfast and one meal. We eat very well!!!! LOL!!!

It's another beautiful spring-like day today and this kind of weather makes me want to-----------------clean---go figure! So the last 2 days, I have been dusting and doing the floors and just giving the house a good spring cleaning--I know it isn't spring yet, but at least I have a nice clean house. I have been splitting it up into several days, so that helps a lot---too old to do it all in one day anymore!!!! Today will be vacuuming day!!! But I will be quilting some, too!

Going Camping Project Linus Quilts

Can't figure it out---my counter changed itself from 35,000+ down to 12,000+---I wonder how it did that? Oh well, I can watch it build itself back up again!!!!

The pictures show happy Camping 1 and 2--two quilts that I made for Project Linus in Dallas. They were fun to make using a lot of the same fabrics to highlight the inner panel, but in different ways! I used a khahi green to quilt them and it looks great, even if I do say so myself!

The rain let up for a couple of days and now it is back again with the gray skies to go with it---so I decided to work on something bright---Debi got me a Jelly Roll of bright colors, so today's the day to work on that---I have a cute pattern that I got at the Fort Worth show to do that in---it has some sunflowers in it---good cheery faces for a rainy day!

Small Steps

In the last few days I have tried sewing at the machine for just a few minutes, which isn't easy with your arm in a sling, and I've been surprised at what I've been able to accomplish! A whole row of charm squares with sashing and corner squares! Maybe doesn't look like much, but I feel like I've done a whole bunch in just a few minutes a day! I don't want to push it so have MADE myself go slowly! Feels so good to be at the machine again! There are really 6 blocks in the row, but one skipped out of the picture! These are packs of charm squares--I have 4 of them--2 each for each quilt I will make and these will go to Project Linus when finished someday.

Besides the flowers yesterday, I had a lovely pick-me-up phone call from the girls at retreat--they were having a wonderful time--I didn't get to go because of my surgery, but next time. According to what a little birdie told me, some serious work got done on the Forever Flowers quilts that were being worked on!!!! Your phone call really lifted my spirits, girls, and I thank you so much!!!

Off to the Quilting Retreat I Go!!!

My sewing room is a mess--I'm packing up for the quilting retreat that starts today at 3:00. Sponsored by Quilt Mercantile and held at the Jan-Kay Ranch in Northeast Texas, it will be 2.5 days of sewing and quilting bliss! Can you tell I'm looking forward to it?! This is the first time I've ever done something like this, so it will be a great learning experience for me. The main theme will be applique with an applique teacher on site.

As he was helping me pack up the car last night and as he left for work this morning my husband told me with a smile, "You're taking too much stuff!!" And here I thought I was packing light compared to some of the stories I've heard!!!

So I'll "see" you in 2 days with lots of stories to tell, I hope.

Do the Funky Chicken (Pin Cushion, that is!!!)

Cute and easy to do---here are my versions of the funky chicken pin cushions. The original pattern called for half square triangles like I did here, but the only pattern I could find now is the log cabin version. But the technique is the same for all of them and once you figure that out, the sky's the limit, so to speak! They each take on their own personality. I thought the biggest one was the mother and her name was Maude and these were her chicklets; Mollie, Mary and Mimi. Their father was from a good neighborhood!!!!

It's fun to take time from quilting and do fun projects like these just for something different to do, plus I wanted to start working on some Christmas gifts for our get togethers at Christmas time. Some of you will know what you are getting now--oh dear, but they were too cute not to show off!

Sometimes it's fun to not leave things until the last minute and as I've said before, I don't always like to do that!

Wedding Rings!

Here's a new to me version of Wedding Rings--I had tried the other kind and decided that kind was not for me, but this kind I can handle! This one block will be repeated 4 times and turned a different way each time to make up the lap sized quilt. I'm making it for a friend who is getting married in December.

It's a fun block to do, but you want to keep your wits about you as you do it because otherwise you will turn something the wrong way and all of a sudden your rings will not be intertwining the way they should be--don't ask me how I know!

So 3 more blocks to go and the borders and another one will be added to the quilting pile which has started to grow again--funny how it does that!

Now to get started on some more Project Linus quilts that I bought fabric for the other day at Sit N Sew. Quilt Mercantile had fabric on sale for just $3.50 a yard and not being one to pass up a bargain, I bought several yards for charity quilts--many are fun prints that will work well for "Just Can't Cut It," "Yellow Brick Road," and a couple of panel quilts with borders. There's always something on the "Things to do" list!!!
