I gave my sister-in-law a picnic quilt with matching tote I made from the Circle Jeans Quilt pattern.
(like this: http://sockshavenothumbs.blogspot.com/2008/02/can-i-look-now.html )

What made it best was her reaction! She responded in a way that was just perfect - to both quilts I've made her for the last 2 years. In a way that makes you want to give "handmade" again. Admittedly she was equally enthusiastic over the giant casserole dish with carrier & hot/cold lids. But then she's a better cook than I and will use it well!

hmmm the best present this year I think, was a digital photo frame.. my mum died suddenly in 2007, my dad isn't coping too well, so I got him the frame and found some pics of mum and put them on a card for him when he is ready to load it up.. he was very happy with this gift.. the other thing he got was a bike, so I have visions of taking my 64 year old father, who I never have seen on a pushbike, at the emergency room!

Happy 2009 to you :O))

Happy Quilty 2009! The best Christmas present I gave this year would have to be these really really cool shoes for my 15 y.o. daughter. And they had lots of different colours in them - almost like patchwork (but don't let her know I said that).
Cheers!

Happy New Year from Orkney in Scotland! The best present I gave was lap quilt to my husband. I only had three days to do it, but I used hen cheater blocks (we raised hens) with Flying Geese for the sashing (to represent the geese we saw every winter). Now when he is feeling cold, grouchy or unwell, my husband snuggles under the quilt.
This will be a great resource for useful gifts to give in the future. Good Luck everybody!

Happy New Year!

Best gift we gave...that one is hard! We don't buy a lot of gifts so each are chosen with much thought so I was very happy with all we gave.

I think the best gift we gave this year wasn't a wrapped one, but the gift of family unity. We've had a rough couple of years financially, but have all pulled together and worked together and have become a stronger family for it.

Our Christmas day was probably one of the best we've ever had, not because of the gifts, but because we truly enjoyed all we did for one another that day.

The best was to my 8 yr old Grandaughter who with her Mom and Brother live with us. I gave her a book for young people on Quilting. Actually its 2 in the set. Hopefully her interest will grow and she becomes a Quilter. NanaBarto@aol.com

About 6 years ago I gave my sister who taught me how to quilt the very first quilt that I made. It was a king size crazy quilt( nothing like jumping in big ). With it I put a box of tissues ,Hot Cocoa Mix, Pop Corn and 2 Books "The Child Called It" and "The Lost Boy". WE both live in Maine and I thought this was the perfect gift for a good old North Easter Storm that in the winter can drop up to 2 ft of snow. She just loved it.

Aloha & Happy New Year Jan! I believe the best Christmas gift I've ever given was what I gave my daughter in law! She had been really admiring (ACTUALLY~ just short of LUSTING AFTER! LOL) 5 yards of this certain fabric I'd just gotten (I bought the last on the bolt! As the weeks went by, I couldn't even bring myself to use the fabric for what I intended, especially after inquiring of the fabric store's owner when the reorder would be in-NOT SURE! Anyway, on Christmas Eve, I was "moved" to gift it to her & I was truly blessed to see how very happy she was with it! That really made our day for both of us!

Cindy said...

I believe the best present I gave for Christmas were the ornaments I made to give to each lady who attended the women's gathering I had at our home. The best present I ever gave? Would be a copy of my parents applications to get married. I found them at the courthouse while looking for other information. They were just 16 and 19 back then and had to have notes from their parents to apply. The clerk back then, kept the notes and filed them with their applications. My parents were so thrilled to get them and it was so fun to surprise them with it. Opened up lots of stories and memories.

Happy New Year! Thank you for your generous gift in the give-away! I love this fabric line by Moda.

Perhaps the best gift this holiday was to my MIL. She is in an assisted living and rather lonely. We gave her a DVD player and subscription to Netflix. She has never touched a computer so we will do the work for her on our end. She seemed very excited to watch movies that she always wanted to see, but couldn't because they lived in a rural area.

Again, thank you for a chance to win your lovely gift!

I am retired and live far from family and friends, so alot of my new friends are my blog friends. I have been blog friends for 3 years now with a wonderful lady in England-I sent her a leather hide that was dyed purple-she loves to make things-so I know she will have fun deciding what she wants to do with-this was a total surprise for her-so that was much fun for me Kathy

Ok, so ANY time I have ever given a hand quilted quilt to someone, it has been the best gift I have ever given. It is a part of me...by the time I am finished, there is actual blood in that gift!! It feels very good to both the receiver and the giver.
Happy New Year to you!!

Ohh, dear. I'm afraid this year I didn't get too creative. BUT I did make my mom a thread catcher because she does a TON of charity sewing and those are so handy to hang on the sewing machine table! She loved it!

I made a casserole carrier using some 30's fabric for my best friend this Christmas. She does at least 10 potlucks each year and will really enjoy using it!

I have two best presents I gave for Christmas. A guitar bag made for my daughter - she loves it. And capes for my sons with their initials appliqued on them - they love them too!

Ok, how do I shorten this story...LOL The best present we gave for Christmas this year was for a friend's two year old. Another friend, had one day given her her cane to play with and she rode it like a hobby horse. If you don't know what those are, they are a stuffed horse head on a stick that kids can ride. Haven't seen one in years and years. While shopping in a quaint little town in the mountains, we stumbled on one and UREKA!! The best gift ever was purchased for our little two year old we have lovingly adopted as our grandchild.

The best present I gave THIS Christmas was a grad ring to my husband. He got his master's degree in 2004 but never had a grad ring from either high school or university, so I phoned the bookstore at the university (where we met!) and ordered him a beautiful ring.

Happy New Year and thanks for the great giveaway!

I made 21 aprons for family members and friends. My sisters and mom were the most surprised ( they all opened at once)...and I was very happy that they liked what fabric I had chosen for each of them. It made the endless hours of turning those 21-120 inch straps worth while!

My best friend and I live across the country from each other. Last year we decided to give to others in our community rather than mail gifts cross country. I made polar fleece scarves this year and donated them to a local homeless shelter.

Happy new year!
I would like to say that the best gift I gave this year was something I loveingly made with my own two hands........but it wasn't! It was a new digital camera for my Mum, her old one is terrible, the memory stick could only fit about 10 photos and it was so old you couldn't buy a new memory stick for it, so hubby and I brought her a new one for Christmas - boy was she surprised, and delighted.

Nice prize! One year I gave our kids surprise balls in their stockings. I used crepe paper and we put little candies and coins in as we rolled them. They had a blast unwinding them at great speed! And they didn't even notice that we were broke that year!

Warm winter wishes!

The best present I gave this Christmas was to my mother. We rented rooms at the Comfort Inn not far from her home and she thought it was wonderful because it was "getting away" where someone else cooked, cleaned, etc. and we all just got to visit and exchange gifts, look at photos, etc. She's 80 and my dad passed away last spring so Christmas needed to be something different, not so sad. I recommend it to anyone in similar circumstances. Lovely giveaway so please enter me in the drawing.

The best Christmas gift I gave was finding an old friend's whereabouts and paying a visit. Pexplomprobably in a tie was the packages of stocking that we sent to the troops. some of these "guys" get no mail from home, so commen that it is hard to believe that a total stranger would send them a Christmas stocking.

Wonderful giveaway! This year the best gift was to our daughter. She had recently finished stitching her very first beautiful cross stitch piece and she wanted to have it matted and framed professionally. She couldn't afford to pay for it herself, so she picked out the mats and the frame stock, and we paid for it. She didn't get to see it finished until Christmas morning when she opened it. It turned out so nice and it will be something she will cherish for a long time.
