What a Nice Vacation!

We are back from a very nice vacation with our daughter and grandaughters in Columbus, Ohio. It was a busy one and yes, we got tired, but it was a lot of fun! We went to help our daughter with the girls while her husband was speaking at a youth camp in Pennsylvania for a week. Our daughter works at home, so especially needed some help so she could get her work done! So we had tea parties and indoor picnics and played lots of Barbies and Little Pet Shops. We painted little treasure boxes and read books. Whew! My daughter even fit in a trip to the quilt store for me---wasn't that thoughtful?!! And she took her dad to a discount tool store. To say that we were a little bit busy would be an understatement!!! But we wouldn't have changed anything for the world!!!! We celebrated her _____birthday while we were there, too! I won't tell on her!! I am showing you some pictures of all the fun.

Maynard got to do a few things around the house---he loved getting out the saw! That's Isabel, 7 with me painting her treasure box and Ilena, 4 with Pop-Pop painting hers. Purple and pink----2 favorite colors!

Now you'll have to excuse me---I'm going to take a nap in between loads of laundry!!! LOL!!

Myra's Bag that I Won!!!!!!!

I was so happy to be the winner of Myra's tote bag in the drawing on her blog---that is the first picture. Isn't it neat? The colors are so pretty. Thanks Myra!

The other pictures show some more quilts for Project Linus. Mr. Hoot Owl and Friends and Blue on Blue. The first one I used a pattern from Riley Blake on her blog. It was called Easy Peasy, but I had a hard time getting the right size blocks from the strips that were sewn together. So I used smaller blocks and it turned out just fine! And it was Easy Peasy!

The next one I used Big and Bold Blocks. It went together very quickly. I love those Metro Blue and Metro Brown lines of fabric. I think those were the ones that were so popular that they reprinted some of the more popular ones!

Two New Tops

The first picture show the Star of the Show blocks as I had them part way made, confusion reigned!!! Then the second picture shows the top done! It was an "out of the box" challenge for me to do this quilt top , but I perserved and finished it! I'm very happy with what I did except the yellow might be a bit too bright, but it's there to stay now and I'll get used to it. Hubby says he likes it, so that's good!!!!! I have to get some backing fabric for it and get it quilted---I think I'll have Maynard do it with a meandering star in maybe a dark red thread. That will something a little bit different.

The third picture I called Zig Zag Polka Dots. It is a new pattern that didn't quite work out for me. You can find it here. She called it an Easy Peasy Quilt. Well, it was, except I couldn't get enough 9 1/2" blocks out of each strip that I sewed together. So I made them 8" blocks and sewed those together. With the borders I still got a 42" x 56" quilt----a nice size for Project Linus. I know that Project Linus likes them all sizes because kids come in all sizes, so I hope someone will like this bright quilt!!!

Quilt Barns Blocks and One PL Quilt

First is a picture of 2 more barn blocks from a BOM on this website. You have to scroll almost to the bottom of the page to see them. I paper pieced the last 2 little quilt blocks and still had trouble with the first one! It was a "toughie!" It still is lacking finesse, but I'm not doing it a fourth time!!!!! Stomp foot!!!! LOL!!!

The second picture is of a "Big and Bold" pattern of cars and flames, etc so I named it "Day of the Big Race." It's a very easy and fast pattern to do. I picked it up at the local quilt store, "Quilt Mercantile." It makes a bigger quilt---maybe for a teenager boy that likes cars.

I was the lucky winner at Myra's blog of a beautiful handmade tote made by my friend of years, Myra. We will be twins, because she made another just like it for herself! We go back lots of years on forums and now on the blogs. I feel glad to have something handmade by her, she does such beautiful work! Thanks Myra! I'll post another picture of it when it arrives.

More for Project Linus!

Here are three more for Project Linus.............they are "Ice Hockey," "Desert Nights," and "Tweet, Tweet." Desert Nights is made with a pattern called Gumbo Ya-Ya. It takes Fat Quarters and has three different blocks that you mix and match to make a quilt top. Very interesting and fun pattern. The other two are Yellow Brick Roads. I wanted to use up some of the Fat Quarters in the basket, but this didn't even make a small dent!!!! I need to stop buying and need to keep on sewing!! But it is nice to have extra fabric, isn't it?!
