I have been busy---really!!

I haven't blogged for a whole week and how the time has flown by! I haven't done much, but I have been busy with some small items. One has been this wall hanging of wool applique--it has been slow going because it is something new to me and everything seems to take longer to figure out for some reason---even though it is just like regular applique only I'm using wool fabric and button-hole stitching it to a cotton. What is my problem??!! I don't really know except for some reason it makes me nervous!!!! As you can see from the picture beside it, it is a crock with geraniums and a small flag in it.

The other thing I did was three 12.5" blocks for a Project Linus quilt that some friends and I are putting together sometime soon--don't know just when yet. We were given the black print fabric and had to make blocks from it with other colors. I like my happy, bright other colors. These were fun to do!

Thanks to everyone who has been leaving comments on my Whirl Into Winter Drawing--there are so many comments that I can't answer each and every one, but I'm glad to hear your stories . Tomorrow is the big day where I will draw a number at random and that person will be the winner. Can't wait to see who the winner is!!!! Hard to believe that it is the 15th of January already---this month is flying by, too! Good luck to all of you!

Mary Engelbreit Friends and Flowers

Here is the center of the Friends and Flowers quilt that I am making--the bird will have very, very long legs embroidered on and the round, red flowers will have stems embroidered on, too. I still have 4 borders to put on. But I got this far and had to show what I have accomplished so far today! Also, I tried again with the applique on Rosebud Lane and got it right this time!! Hurrah! Now I am appliquing the pieces down with the buttonhole stitch on my machine.

It was so kind of several of you to write and say that you had messed up on occasion, too, like I did with my applique yesterday--sometimes things just happen, don't they? Thanks, dd2 for sharing your "Mommy Moment" with all of us--I bet there's lots of us that can relate to that ! (Although it was awfully fun to read, I don't mean to be laughing at you!!)

Forever Flowers Block # 5!

Here is Forever Flowers Block #5! It's called Autumn Greetings and does have a fall look to it, I think! I'll sew the beads on after it's quilted. One more block to go and then set this one together and it will be a quilt top!

This one has been a stretch to me with the applique--not something I do very much of, but I don't mind it too much at all! Except when the pieces get real tiny--then that's a bit much!!! This has been done with needle turn applique using freezer paper to cut the pieces out. My method differs from the link in that I trace around the design, then cut leaving a 1/4" seam allowance or less, then peel off the freezer paper before I do the needle turn applique.

I've been to a couple of classes at the LQS, Quilt Mercantile, (I do hope they get their website up and running soon, so I can link to them!!!!!) and the applique classes helped a lot. There's just something about a hands-on approach that you just can't get from a book! Although Kathy Delaney's book Hearts and Flowers has helped me a lot.

Maybe applique is something you'd like to try???!!! Ah, come on, when's the last time you tried something new???!!!
