Written in Thread All Together

Written in Thread is a quilt top and now is ready to have that inside border embroidered! Sorry I cropped the picture a bit too much---can't wait to get my computer back from the shop!!!!! I have the border traced and part of it embroidered, but it slow going since I have the flu and am trying to work on the quilt and sneeze and cough at the same time---that is why you haven't heard much from me the last few days. I'm feeling good enough to not want to feel bad all the time, but not good enough to do anything about it---do you know what I mean!? So I have made a few embroidery stitches and ripped out a few and put them back in-slow going!!!!

Steer clear of this nasty flu bug if you can--although my guess is that it is everywhere!!!

Fitting the Puzzle Pieces Together

The quilt is called "Written in Thread" and I have all the embroidery finished except for the border and I will do that after the center of the quilt is put together. It is rather like putting a puzzle together in a way because the directions for the whole quilt have not been that good and I have been "winging it" most of the way through! One of my friends (Debra) at Sit and Sew on Tuesdays is doing this quilt also and she has the same complaints-so we are working on it together and crying on each other's shoulder~! But it will be nice when it is finished. The picture shows a few of the finished blocks. Two of the sayings are "Handmade is Heartmade" and "Blankets of Love."

It's like a day in spring outside --temps in the 70's------- sure different from the cold spell we had a couple of weeks ago---I'll take this any day!

Challenge Quilt Top Number Three

This is challenge quilt number three. It reminds me of a Trip Around the world. It is made with 4 patches and 4 1/2" squares. I was glad that I had a design board to work on because it was hard to keep track of what went where! Sometimes the challenge of these quilts has been putting the fabrics together because I am only allowing myself to use my stash and not to purchase any fabric! But with 3 quilts done , I haven't seen it go down!

Birthday Tea Party

It's tea party time! What fun the grandgirls had with a birthday (Ilena turned 4) tea party! (Isabel is 7.) They dressed in their party dresses and ate lovely almond birthday cake and drank "tea." With a little nudge from Grandma and Mom, they took turns pouring tea . Such fun!!!!

I made the tablecloth and four napkins----you can see where there were some spills!!!

Challenge Quilt Top Number Two...........

Challenge quilt top number two is ready to be quilted. This is supposed to be a diagonal rows quilt, but the only diagonal row that really shows up is the yellow one!!!!! Oh my! Now on to the next one and see what's in store for the challenge!!!

We had a wonderful trip to Ohio last week---got to see our grandgirls, Isabel, 7 and Ilena, 4. We had gotten them a lovely painted, china tea set in a wicker basket, so of course we had a tea party. It was Ilena's birthday so we had an even more special ----birthday tea party!!! What fun! And of course I would be remiss if I left out Barbie and My Little Pet Shop! Hours of playtime there!!!!!! I hope to have some pictures soon! It snowed while we were there---the nice fluffy kind of flakes---so we had good reason to stay inside and play! There were not a whole lot of people flying so getting around in the airport was not too bad either. All in all a great trip!

Two New Keepers!

Two quilts are done that I intend to keep---for awhile anyway! The first one is called Homestead and is a panel that I got at the Columbus, Ohio Quilt Show way back in June of 2009. I like it because it is different than what I usually do---a bit on the darker side. Sorry that the picture is on the darker side, too!

The second one is called Music and I had planned to hang it over the piano, but it is too big! But I may put it in the vicinity of the piano somehow! I had quite a time with the 45 degree angle pieces and cut them wrong, but luckily there was a straight edge on them and I had cut them too long, not too short, so I was okay.

We are having some of the coldest weather in a decade today and yesterday, hard to stay warm, even with layers of clothing! As Texans, we are not used to this kind of cold! With the wind blowing, it takes the wind chill way down. Good quilting weather!!!

Challenge for Myself in 2010

This year, I decided to challenge myself and bought a book at the Half Price bookstore called "Bundles of Fun" by Karen Snyder that features quilts made from Fat Quarters. Since I have so many FQs, I decided to start at the first quilt and work my way to the end of the book (kind of like Julie in "Julie and Julia!!!!") The quilts will all go to Project Linus. Here is a picture of the first quilt top. Just simple 6.5" squares. I'm having to resize the patterns so this may prove to be very interesting! But I figured I'd just make less squares---what could be easier??!! (We'll see!!!) So the first quilt top is called "The Horses" Lots of horses in this one ---some little boy or girl should enjoy it!

First Project Linus Quilt for 2010!

Here is my first quilt for 2010 for Project Linus. I called it Blue/Green Arrows. It was started in 2009, but finished in 2010 so I guess it's a 2010 quilt!!!!
